BANG!
AEW Dynamite will be up against the third game of the 2024 NBA Finals on June 12. Jim Ross no longer calls the action on AEW Dynamite on a weekly basis, but he continues to work pay-per-views. Meanwhile, the NBA Finals will be called by a broadcasting icon in his own right, as Mike Breen will be delivering his signature "Bang" calls once again.
Speaking with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Jim Ross spoke highly of Breen, a longtime ESPN NBA broadcaster.
"Mike Breen is the [best] basketball broadcaster in the business. Period. End of story. There is no one better. He reminds me of a modern-day Curt Gowdy. I get inspired hearing how him provide lyrics to the music on the court. He knows exactly how much to say, and when to say it. He maximizes his minutes with every word he utters," Ross said.
Breen returned the favor, as he complimented Ross as well. He called Ross, a WWE Hall of Famer with a legendary career that spans decades, an icon.
“Everyone in this profession should know Jim Ross. He’s an icon. I’m always listening to different broadcasters, whether it’s in baseball, football, hockey, tennis, or wrestling. Right away you can feel how much passion he brings to his calls. When you hear Jim Ross, you can instantly tell how much he loves what he does," Breen said.
Ross stated that he watches a lot of NBA, and Breen makes the games more enjoyable. He said that Breen's calls were legendary. Breen expressed his gratitude for Ross's comments and said he was humbled to hear them.
“It’s very humbling to know he feels that way. I still feel so blessed and honored to be calling the Finals. I always loved the team aspect of it. Bringing the Finals to the fans, it’s so rewarding, especially when you’re working with so many talented people," Breen said.
Barrasso noted that Breen has called the NBA Finals 19 times, and he also works as the lead announcer for the New York Knicks on MSG Network.
Ross missed AEW Double or Nothing due to health issues. He recently provided an update on how he was feeling. Check out his comments here.
