WWE Champion Jinder Mahal has been dealing with questions about the legitimacy of his new physique since fans began to take notice. Some fans, and even some former WWE wrestlers have implied, and even outright accused him of being on steroids.
Mahal addressed the controversy in a recent interview with ESPN. The physique that earned him the nickname "Hardbody Mahal" is all natural, he says, and the results he gets only make him want to train harder.
"When I train hard, I look better. I see the way I look on TV or in the mirror, and it gives me confidence," he said. "It translates into the ring. I have more confidence in the ring and can be more aggressive. If you saw me from a few years ago, the confidence level is night and day, and that's because of the way I look."
As far as whether or not he's taking steroids, Jinder says if he was, it would have shown up on one of the tests he's taken. "I've been tested plenty, and never failed one."
Mahal also says that his push is primarily due to his highly motivated attitude.
"I know Vince [McMahon] appreciates wrestlers taking initiative, putting in the hard work. He had confidence in me. He knew I would embrace the opportunity, and not let WWE down. I think I have been proving that in my matches ever since."
