Joey Janela is hopeful that his contract with AEW gets renewed.
When All Elite Wrestling was formed in 2019, Joey Janela was one of the first wrestlers involved in the initial press conference. Having competed at All In, the event considered to be the precursor to AEW, Joey seemed like a natural fit when he signed with the promotion.
In the years since then, the promotion has grown by leaps and bounds. Now, Joey Janela’s contract is coming to an end, and questions are surfacing regarding his future. Joey is a major part of Game Changer Wrestling, and in AEW, he is typically competing mostly on their YouTube programming.
In recent weeks, names like Marko Stunt and Peter Avalon announce that they are taking more independent bookings as the structure of AEW continues to change as the company grows.
Asked on Barstool’s Rasslin’ podcast what is going on with his current situation with AEW, Joey Janela claimed to not be sure what is happening in regards to his future with AEW.
"You tell me, I don't know," Joey said of his status with All Elite Wrestling. "I don't even talk to them. Yeah, I get a check, but I don't know what's going on."
Ultimately, Joey says he is hopeful that his contract with the company continues otherwise, he runs the risk of looking like an idiot.
"Some rumor says my contract is up on April 30, so I don't know what the fuck is going on,” claimed Joey. “I think it will [continue]. If it doesn't, I look like a fucking idiot right now... I just said it, and this is going online.”
Joey told Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp that his contract expires in May of this year. You can check out that full interview here.
