Joey Janela won't be wrestling on AEW any time soon due to being exposed to someone who has COVID-19.
AEW announced that Janela has been pulled from upcoming AEW shows as a result of the exposure and will only return upon clearing the company's COVID-19 protocols. AEW stated that Janela's exposure to the person who had COVID-19 was at an independent wrestling show, though said show was not identified. It should be noted that AEW has not stated that Janela tested positive for COVID-19.
Janela was supposed to face Kenny Omega in the first round of the AEW World Title Eliminator tournament on tonight's Dynamite, but that is no longer the case. As such, AEW announced that Sonny Kiss will replace Janela in the tournament and will face Omega on tonight's show. No other matches have been altered as a result of the move.
AEW and Joey Janela learned today that he had exposure to a known COVID-19 positive person at an independent show. For that reason we are pulling him until such time as he is cleared to return consistent with our protocols. pic.twitter.com/V8TJiAhuNF
