JBL calls MJF an "American Hero."
If anyone knows something about being a controversial American professional wrestler, it's John Bradshaw Layfield. In 2024, Maxwell Jacob Friedman took up the mantle of the self-proclaimed American Hero, going so far as to rechristen the AEW International Championship as the AEW American Title when he defeated Will Ospreay for the title.
On X, JBL praised MJF by saying that America is lucky to have Maxwell Jacob Friedman, officially endorsing the AEW star as an American Hero.
Proud to wholeheartedly support this True American Hero. The world is lucky to have MJF. https://t.co/crN7LVMzIM

Twenty years ago, JBL embarked on a campaign for a WWE Championship match against Eddie Guerrero that would see his character perpetuate negative stereotypes about the Mexican community and even give Eddie Guerrero's mother a "heart attack." In the end, JBL did get the gold at the aptly named WWE Great American Bash in 2004.
