The summer movie schedule for 2023 is absolutely jam packed with movies that are destined to bring many fans back in droves to the movie theater. As it turns out, WWE legend John Cena will have a part in two of those films.
John Cena will be reprising his role as Jakob Toretto in Fast X, which is set to release in theaters on May 19. Furthermore, Cena is also set to have a role as in the Barbie movie, which is due out on July 21.
While appearing on The Today Show on May 15, Cena revealed that he landed his role in Barbie by accident. Cena also noted that he thinks the two movies share a lot of parallels.
"It was a happy accident. I think Barbie and Fast X share a lot of parallels. The cast list is amazing. The Barbie cast list is amazing. The Fast X cast list is amazing. With a lot of opportunity, it was a chance of, ‘Hey, would you guys be willing to have me?’"
Cena went on to elaborate on how he landed the role in the Barbie movie.
"Kind of. In an accidental run in with Margot Robbie, I said, ‘I will do pretty much whatever you guys need because I really enjoy the movie.’ They asked if I wanted to be a Merman. I said, ‘Yeah, sure.’"
Cena's other upcoming films include Coyote vs. Acme and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, both of which are due out this year.
