You know it's all about the... 'Budge'.
Adam Cole joined the AEW roster at AEW All Out. Almost immediately, Adam became one of the top wrestlers in the promotion. In his first four months with the company, he has feuded with Jurassic Express, Christian Cage, Orange Cassidy, and members of The Dark Order.
Almost immediately, Adam had a very present on-screen chemistry with Alex Reynolds and John Silver of The Dark Order. Outside of their confrontations inside of the ring, they were also a part of sketches together on Being The Elite. One of the things that stuck in the minds of the audience very quickly was the nickname of "Budge" for Adam Cole.
In the past, John Silver has admitted that he wasn't sure that would catch on. Now, he is admitting, on Barstool's Rasslin' podcast, that it was actually Adam Cole who came up with the name for himself, claiming Cole says he picked it up from a reality show.
“So we knew we wanted to make a name change for Cole. Right? We had random stuff in mind. Actually, the name 'Budge' was his idea. He said he saw a reality show, I don't know what show it was… The guy's name was just 'Budge'. It was all caps, ‘BUDGE’. Yeah, no last name. All caps, ‘BUDGE’. He's like, ‘Oh, that'd be a good one. Right?’ I'm like, ‘Yeah, sure. We'll say Budge’. But it's funny with a lot of stuff like a lot of like skits like that that we do. We film it. I'm like, ‘Oh, that's pretty good.’ Then I tell I talk to Alex like, ‘Yeah, that was good. But we could’ve thought some better stuff, maybe.’ Then, that's like the one that explodes so much.
Furthermore, John Silver would say that it's very easy to get along with Adam Cole because he is such a genuinely nice person behind the scenes. Adding that their chemistry was almost instantaneous.
“He's a really nice guy. So it's kind of easy with him, it’s a little frustrating. I think he's like messing me, right. But we weren't — we had the idea of us trying to recruit him. That kind of exploded a little bit like — we did the first one was cutting his hair. We didn't realize, actually, we had the idea of him cutting his hair. He's like, ‘Oh, well do like the name change and the manager stuff.’ I'm like, ‘Oh, I didn't even know that was a thing about cutting your hair. So we had to do all of them. But I've met him as I wrestled him once an indie show like years ago, a long time ago. I've met him a few times too. But we weren't like best friends or anything. But it's just one of those things. We have a lot — We have really good chemistry. I just kind of one of those things you talk to someone, and it’s just there.”
On the most recent Being The Elite from Monday, January 3, 2022, Silver and Reynolds realized that it was no fun laying in a bed just the two of them without Adam, and Adam seemed to feel the same way. You can see that episode of Being The Elite here.
