Johnny Gargano comments on #DIY capturing the WWE Tag Team Titles.
Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa defeated Grayson Waller and Austin Theory on the July 5 episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown to win their first WWE Tag Team Titles. Now, Gargano is speaking about #DIY's goals as champions and making it clear that they are not content with just having won the championship belts.
Speaking on the Under The Ring podcast, Johnny Gargano discussed the legacy of the championship belts. He said that he hopes he and Tommaso Ciampa will elevate the titles and the division as a whole.
"Being the WWE Tag Team Champions, there's so much lineage in those titles. I grew up dreaming of holding those titles, and now, the fact that me, and I'd say probably my best friend, Tommaso Ciampa, get a chance to hold those titles, we aren't just happy being champions. We want to take the tag team division to new heights. We believe in tag team wrestling. We believe in the tag team division. We firmly do believe, as champions, we can take this thing to a whole 'nother level if we get the opportunity."
One thing Johnny Gargano will get the opportunity to do is defend the WWE Tag Team Championships in his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, at WWE SummerSlam. Ciampa and Gargano will learn who their opponents will be after a gauntlet match on the July 26 episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown. Learn more here.
