Jon Moxley Says Taking Time Off After AEW All Out Had To Do With The Story They Were Telling

Jon Moxley explains his vacation that wasn't.

Moxley lost the AEW World Title to CM Punk at AEW All Out and was scheduled to take time off following the event. Plans changed due to Punk getting injured in the match and suspended due to an altercation with Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson). Omega and the Bucks were also suspended.

The AEW World Title was vacated and Moxley was on the following episode of AEW Dynamite, confirming he wasn't originally scheduled to be there.

“I was going to be gone and off TV for six weeks,” Moxley told Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated. “It wasn’t that I needed a vacation. I was feeling good and feeling hot, but it had to do with what we were going to do for a story. Going into All Out, I was thinking, ‘After I get through this match, that’s it for a while.’ I wrestled the match, and we kicked each other’s ass. I was happy, Chicago was happy, everybody was happy. I went outside to smoke a cigarette with Eddie [Kingston] in celebration. That vacation lasted about 30 minutes. By the time I went to bed that night, I was pretty sure we were going to pretend that vacation was never going to happen. But it’s all good; you just roll with the punches.”

Moxley would win the vacated AEW World Title in the tournament of champions, defeating Bryan Danielson at AEW Dynamite Grand Slam.

He is set to defend the title against Hangman Page on the October 18 episode of AEW Dynamite.
