Julia Hart: It Was Hard For Me To Translate Cheerleading Into Wrestling

Julia Hart talks her previous cheerleader gimmick.

When Julia made her All Elite Wrestling debut back in May of 2021, she would be paired up with the Varsity Blonds on AEW Dark, where she would serve as their cheerleader valet. She would also begin competing for the company on Dark.

In December of 2021 on an episode of AEW Dynamite, Julia would be the victim of black mist from Malakai Black, kicking off a storyline where she would eventually join The House Of Black at AEW Double Or Nothing 2022. This would complete her heel turn, as she left her cheerleader gimmick behind for the first time in her young career.

While speaking on The Five Count, Julia looked back on her cheerleader gimmick in AEW. Hart would reveal that she actually thought up the gimmick as an easy option but was surprised to find out how hard it was to bring the gimmick into the squared circle effectively.

"I think I did the cheerleader just because it was easy and I had been a cheerleader for six years. ‘Oh, it’ll be easy.’ It was actually really hard for me to translate cheerleading into wrestling because they are two different things. It was like hitting heads for me, character-wise. Being with Malakai Black, Brody King, and Buddy Matthews, it helped me develop a wrestler side instead of trying so hard to be a cheerleader." Julia said.

Hart would capture the first championship of her career at AEW Full Gear, defeating former champion Kris Statlander and Skye Blue to win the TBS title.

On this week's episode of AEW Collision, Julia showed up following Abadon's victory over Kiera Hogan. You can read more here.

Elsewhere in the same interview, Julia named AJ Lee and a current WWE star as two of her dream opponents. You can read more here.
