When Jushin Liger retires following NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 14 and New Year Dash!! 2020, he will keep his famous mask on.
In an interview with Tokyo Sports (translation courtesy of @STRIGGA), Liger noted that Go Nagai, creator of the original Jushin Liger TV series, told him, "If you wear a mask even if you retire, it's okay to take the name Liger."
Liger also stated that he can't become a "sugao," which translates to "real face." In the case of Liger, this means "unmasked face." Liger made his debut under the mask in 1989.
Liger is set to compete at both nights of Wrestle Kingdom 14. On night one he'll team with Tatsumi Fujinami, The Great Sasuke & Tiger Mask to take on Naoki Sano, Shinjiro Otani, Tatsuhito Takaiwa & Ryusuke Taguchi. Night two will see Liger team with Naoki Sano to take on Ryu Lee & Hiromu Takahashi.
At New Year Dash!! 2020, a retirement ceremony will be held for Liger. It was announced on Sunday that New Year Dash had officially sold out. You can view the announcement by clicking here.
