KAIRI became the first-ever IWGP Women's Champion at NJPW x STARDOM Historic X-Over when she defeated Mayu Iwatani in the main event.
The finish saw KAIRI blast Iwatani with a spinning backfist and then head to the top to drop the insane elbow (top rope elbow) for the three count.

KAIRI showed respect to Iwatani after the bout. She said she would defend the title at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17, but wasn't sure against who. Tam Nakano came out and said she would face KAIRI at Wrestle Kingdom. KAIRI and Tam teamed at Stardom Flashing Champions.
In the tournament, KAIRI received a first-round bye before besting Jazzy Gabert in the semifinals. Iwatani defeated Momo Watanabe in the first round before getting by Utami Hayashishita in the semifinals.
