Kane Felt The Mask Limited The Emotion He Could Portray

Kane on why he wanted to get rid of the mask.

When Kane debuted in 1998, he had a mask that covered his face, which was allegedly burnt in a fire set by his brother The Undertaker. The mask evolved over the years to where his mouth was less restricted. In 2003, Kane removed the mask, showing a half-bald look that confused fans at the time. Speaking on WWE Photo Shoot, Kane revealed the thought process behind taking off his mask.

"We shaved my head part way because Bruce Prichard thought that was a unique look. I said, 'that's ridiculous.' So we ended up cutting the rest off as well. In my mind, I had gone as far as I could with the mask on. It adds a lot of mystique, but it also didn't allow me to use my face to portray emotion. Our business is all about emotion. I felt that I was limited in that respect," he said.

Kane was confronted by his past in 2006 when a fake Kane (Luke Gallows) emerged. The storyline was quickly dropped.

"Stuff happens. We have ideas for stories and conceptional they seem really well and then the execution just doesn't work or the audience doesn't gravitate to it. This was one of those stories."

Kane would bring the mask back in 2011, though he would take it off again when named The Authority's Director of Operations in 2013.
