Karl Anderson Heard There Were Little Rumblings Of Him Winning IWGP Heavyweight Title In 2013

Karl Anderson made it to the G1 Final in 2012, losing to Kazuchika Okada. Anderson would go on to face Masato Tanaka for the NEVER Openweight Title tournament final in November 2012 and then win World Tag League 2012 with Hirooki Goto.

Speaking on Talk N Shop, Anderson revealed he heard rumblings of a possible IWGP Heavyweight Title reign in 2013 after his run in 2012.

"I’d heard there were little rumblings in 2013 of a possible heavyweight [title] just because I started to get over a little bit. I’d heard there was a possible chance for a one-month switch, for me to the IWGP Heavyweight Champion and then switch it back. But that of course didn’t happen. Doesn’t matter. It’s like I want to make fun of people for fantasy booking. Anything can happen. I can say anything I want, it doesn’t matter," he said.

Hiroshi Tanahashi was the IWGP Heavyweight Champion at the start of 2013. He lost the title to Kazuchika Okada in April 2013. Okada held the title until April 2014.

Anderson continued, revealing plans to win the IWGP US Title.

"I was gonna be the IWGP United States Champion. I was gonna have a singles match with [Jon] Moxley at the Tokyo Dome, but then that’s if we would have signed a different deal back in 2019, and then what if the world would have still have shut down? I might not even have gotten that match after COVID or before COVID or whatever it was," he said.

Moxley reigned at IWGP US Champion from June 2019 to October 2019.

Elsewhere during the podcast, Anderson discussed his Wrestle Kingdom 17 match while being signed to WWE. You can find his full comments by clicking here.
