Kemonito Says He Is Thinking About Retiring In 2023

The King of Social Media talks about hanging up his boots during 2023.

Kemonito first made his name in 1988 as El Tinieblas's mascot, then going by Alushe until 2002, when he changed his name to Kemonito after he signed with CMLL. Since signing with the Wrestling company, Kemonito has become one of the faces of the company, nicknamed "The King of Social Media" due to his antics as a manager.

Despite the prolific career of the 2'11 ft luchador, he recently revealed that he may be nearing his exit from in-ring competition entirely.

In a recent interview with Alejandro Sandoval & Poli Carrillo on "Arena W" for Radio station W Derportes alongside fellow CMLL Wrestler & "Los Ingobernables" Member EL Terrible, Kemonito stated that he has been thinking about retiring sometime in 2023. He stated the following:

“I am feeling good I am still giving some guts to this, but there are not many New Year’s resolutions for me because I may make my retirement this year. I wish I could last longer & do more stuff, but the time, the hits & everything else take its toll. You have to know when to retire to not go out on a wimp.“

When asked about the capacity of his retirement, he specified that he is still not certain about his decision regarding a full exit from wrestling, saying that he just end his in-ring career but may continue performing in other roles, but specified that it was not certain either. He stated the following:

“I have thought about it a lot & I know of the decision I am making. This year, I will try to look into that & define it too. I have said it in other interviews, but my retirement may just be an in-ring retirement & may continue in wrestling in another aspect. It is not fully defined, but it is definitely on my mind.”

He ended the interview by reflecting on his wrestling abilities and specified that the need to be a stand-out may be the culprit to getting injured and risking injuries.

“The need to stand out can make everyone prone to make errors. We would go for a move and then BOOM, you’re injured. We have to be careful about that, us (wrestlers) specifically.”

Kemonito last wrestled a match on 5/1/2016, tagging with Los Chiki Nerds (Erwin & Irving) against Porrito, Masizito & Zacarias for Independent company DTU, but has been continually involved in matches as a manager in CMLL since then.

Fightful will have more updates on Kemonito's future & will continue to monitor the story as updates are known. You can find the results for CMLL & more from across the wrestling on Fightful's result section.
