AEW Revolution ended with a dud as the major explosion in the exploding barbed wire deathmatch ended up being reduced to sparklers and minor firework pops.
The storyline reason for the lack of anything blowing up was Kenny Omega building a dud of a bomb. Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston even joked that IMPACT may have paid for the bomb. Don Callis, in storyline, explained that the dud explosion made Moxley and Kingston look foolish, which meant Omega won even more.
Omega, not in storyline, expressed his disappointment with the dud and issued the following statement to the Wrestling Observer on the explosion:
“Yeah, it was really deflating to do so much preparation, test the explosions, have them be impressive in the rehearsal, and then have it be something so much different than what was promised. It made me appreciate everyone who worked hard and did their part even more, though. But like you said, we really wanted to have a good one, and we added real barbed wire to help with the feeling of danger so we really risked a lot. Again, I loved the match, glad we did it, sucks about the finale.”
Immediately following the event, Moxley commented on the lack of explosion, saying Omega couldn't build an exploding ring worth a shit.
It was previously reported that Omega was "furious" with how the spot turned out
