Inside a muggy sports complex, Killer Kelly was back doing what she loved in the place where she'd been trying to get to for the last year, The United States.
Kelly left WWE's NXT UK territory last year, just before the pandemic in search of greener pastures. As we stood on the bright green turf of Hoffman Estates' Grand Sports Arena, it seemed like she may have finally been well on her way.
"This was my first match back. I’m so hyped," Kelly said with a huge smile on her face. "It was amazing. I can’t wait to wrestle everywhere now. Just having all the fans going crazy for me. I’m like, ‘Oh, my God, you guys know me. It’s so weird."
It wasn't always like this. Kelly left NXT UK for those pastures, then those pastures were shut down in March 2020 as a global pandemic took hold. Kelly no longer had that guaranteed income, and as we stood in front of a Black Label Pro show being disassembled, it was much easier for her to look back on how she felt at the time.
"Shitty. Very shitty," Kelly admitted on her feelings of the decision to leave. "I was like, ‘Oh, my God. I’m gonna take over the indy scene,’ and then the world ended. ‘Oh, fuck. Okay. Cool.’ But, now I’m doing it. Starting to do it."
Earlier this year, Fightful reported that IMPACT Wrestling had serious interest in Kelly. Unfortunately for her, issues with the embassy in her homeland caused issues getting her over here. On those rumors, she said "I don’t know and I don’t know." We were briefly interrupted by Joey Janela, who recalled eating pizza with Kelly.
Janela is in AEW, and outside of the occasional indie date is there full time. As we wrapped up our conversation, Kelly noted all the fresh matchups, and has a specific opponent in mind.
"I want to wrestle everyone. I know this is going to sound very cliché, but Suzuki’s gonna be here. Why can’t I wrestle Suzuki?"
