Killian Dain has his fingers and toes crossed for his wife, Nikki Cross.
Recently, Nikki Cross debuted a new gimmick that sees her portraying a superhero-like character. Openly discussing wanting to be a positive role model for all those who feel like an underdog or an outcast, Nikki now has the ability to set herself apart from the rest of the roster by portraying a character that has not been seen in the industry for some time.
Speaking on Ringside Rant, Killian Dain, Cross’ husband who was recently released by WWE, noted that this is a character she's wanted to portray for quite some time and the shocking element is that there was a belief the character would not come to fruition.
"What I love about this gimmick is it’s given her the opportunity to be the character she really wants to be. She wants to be appropriate for little girls and someone to aspire towards because not all our characters are that way, some are villains or whatever, so this is a good opportunity for her to be, especially the way the world is right now, to be a positive force, it’s actually quite incredible," said Dain. "It’s been fun because this [idea was her's] and she was able to pitch it. It took a long time to get started. The funniest part is we thought it was never going to happen, then boom! It was all 'go, go, go!'"
Nikki Cross made her first appearance in months on an episode of Monday Night Raw as the sole female Lumberjack during a match between John Morrison and Damian Priest. While this is not the specified occurrence, Dain noted that what got the ball rolling on the new character was Nikki being able to step up when a role was needed to be filled.
"She’s loving it right now. Even when she started doing stuff on TV right before the superhero gimmick, this all happened out of nothing. Somebody got hurt or something and she filled in, it went well because she’s that type of character and great. They were like, 'Okay, let’s go full steam ahead with the superhero stuff. Honestly, it’s a great experience for her. She’s out there on her own now. She’s not attached to SAnitY, she’s not attached to Alexa, this is just her and she’s an incredible talent. She’s got all this charisma, but there’s a lot of times that you don’t get to showcase that, that’s the nature of the business, but she’s getting that opportunity now and my fingers and toes are crossed for her.”
Dain also praised Shane Helms who famously played The Hurricane, another superhero character, in the past. Dain would say both he and Nikki love Shane and that Shane has really helped Nikki Cross with this character and the intricacies of working with a mask such as the one she's currently using and he hopes that they will one day put them together on TV or perhaps even use another superhero from the past.
