Konosuke Takeshita: Potential Match Against Kazuchika Okada Is Destiny, It Will Happen When The Time Is Right

Konosuke Takeshita says it's just a matter of time.

For fans, years have buzzed about a potential match between Kazuchika Okada and Konosuke Takeshita. They had been top stars in NJPW and DDT, respectively, and Takeshita has continued to reach new heights since he signed with AEW in 2022. Okada joined AEW in March 2024, leading some fans to hope that they would cross paths sooner rather than later.

"I think it's destiny. Even before I came to the U.S., some people said that Takeshita vs. Okada was a dream match, and while we had completely different paths, now we belong to the same organization. When the time is right, I think that the match vs. Okada will happen, and I'd like to make it a match that attracts more attention and reaches wrestling fans around the world than it does now," Takeshita said.

Takeshita went on to comment about how he aimed to prove himself as the leader of the new generation when he competes in the NJPW G1 Climax 34.

"I heard that the catchphrase for this year's G1 is, 'Kessho Saikyou,' and I thought that would be appropriate for me. 'Decide, the strongest?' I think we are really at a turning point in the current era, as players of our generation are leading the way at AEW. I will prove who is leading the way...I will prove it," Takeshita said.
