Kota Ibushi Wins NEVER Openweight Title, Will Ospreay Issues The Challenge For Wrestle Kingdom 13

The match has been verbally agreed upon.

Today was the final day of World Tag League tournament action and one bout coming out of this show thus far has been confirmed for New Japan Pro Wrestling's biggest event of the year in Wrestle Kingdom 13. It was Will Ospreay who made his return to the company tonight after being out for two months with a rib injury to face Taichi with the winner earning a shot at the NEVER Openweight Championship which was going to be fought for in the following match. Will Ospreay despite his injury was able to get the best of Taichi and pull out the victory and then it was time for Ospreay to wait to see who he was going to be challenging at Wrestle Kingdom.

The following match was "The Golden Star" Kota Ibushi versus the champion Hirooki Goto for the NEVER Openweight Title. With the IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega in his corner, Ibushi had all the support he needed to take the fight to Goto. Both competitors attempted to hit high-risk moves on one another and they left it all in the ring and the conclusion of the bout saw Ibushi connect with his "Kamigoye" knee strike to the face of Hirooki Goto to win his first championship in three years since his run in the KO-D promotion.
