Kurt Angle praises Joe Hendry.
Joe Hendry has become a breakout star in recent months, as his theme song has gone viral, and he has climbed into world title contention in TNA. He has also been a key part of the working relationship between NXT and TNA, as he has crossed over multiple times.
Speaking on The Kurt Angle Show (via One True Sport), the WWE Hall of Famer was asked whether he believed in Joe Hendry.
"[Laughs] I believe in Joe Hendry, yes I do. I got to wrestle Joe over in the UK. It was for WCPW or something like that. He’s good. Not only that, he had this character where he would sing songs about his opponents. He did some about me, I was like, ‘Holy shit. This guy needs to be in WWE.’ He was Elias times 100,000. He was able to tell stories about his opponents every single week. He would come up with these songs, and he would play the guitar, and it was just really impressive. Not only that, but he was a great worker in the ring. So I knew this kid was gonna be something special. I’m actually surprised that he hasn’t been pushed even further at this point in his career. He deserves that [being part of the NXT/TNA crossover]. The kid is multi-talented, he really is," Angle said.
Angle was asked to comment on NXT working with TNA, and he noted that he was glad to see that WWE was working with TNA. He recalled how WWE had considered TNA competition, and he admitted that TNA was never competing with WWE. Angle reiterated that it was cool to see them working together.
“I’m glad they’re doing it. For a long time, they considered TNA competition. I don’t know if it was ever competition. The Monday Night Was was real competition. But TNA, when I was there, we weren’t getting near the ratings WWE was, but we were doing pretty well. We were getting two million viewers a week, and it was pretty impressive for a small company. But we never competing with WWE. It’s kind of cool that they realize that now. They want to reach out and mix with other companies, and with a company like TNA, I think that’s really cool," Angle said.
Angle then stated that he never thought he would see an NXT wrestler appear on TNA programming. He said that he loved it, and he thought that it would help both companies.
"I never thought an NXT wrestler would end up on TNA. But you know what, I love it. I think it’s great, and I think that’s it’s gonna help both companies regardless," Angle said.
