LA Knight Believes That He Was Unofficially Fired Before Taking On Max Dupri Character In WWE

LA Knight believes that he was set to be fired from WWE before taking on the Max Dupri persona.

Knight is currently on one of the biggest runs of his career, a run that nearly didn't happen, according to the 'Megastar' himself.

AEW International Title Bout Announced For AEW Full Gear

Shortly after joining the main roster in early 2022, Knight became the leader of the faction known as the Maxium Male Models. With that came a name change for Knight, as he became Max Dupri.

The gimmick change didn't last long, as Dupri would revert to being Knight only months later.

In a new interview with Chris Van Vliet, Knight revealed that he thinks he was on his way to being fired from WWE before the Dupri persona was attached to him.

“Well let me just go ahead and say this, I’m pretty sure I was fired and it just hadn’t officially happened yet. But without getting into too many details, some things happened, I don’t remember what it was, but some things happened and I had gotten a FaceTime, ‘Hey, we wanna keep you around, we wanna do this, that, whatever’, somehow I had been saved from being thrown off the cliff, at least this is my interpretation of it. Maybe I’m incorrect, I don’t know. Eventually, things just kind of worked out and I think maybe again, maybe some of the testament of why things are working the way they are and why people are reacting the way are is because one of these [characters] is not me and I didn’t know who it was and one of these was very much me and I didn’t have to think about LA Knight."

Knight also went on to explain his comfort with his current character, noting that it's a combination of him at a party and him in an argument with someone.

"I don’t have to dig in and [ask myself] who is this, who am I, what am I doing… I just go in and do it, it’s just me heightened. To me, my personality on TV, it’s an amalgamation of me at a party and me in an argument. When you stick those two together, you got LA Knight.”

Knight is set to compete in the Men's Money In The Bank ladder match at Saturday's Money In The Bank Premium Live Event. Fans can see the lineup for the event by clicking here.
