Donald Trump has nominated Linda McMahon as U.S Secretary of Education.
The United States Senate will need to confirm McMahon for her new role. Republicans have the majority vote in the Senate following the 2024 election.
CNN first reported the news of Trump's pick.
McMahon is co-chair of Trump's presidential transition team. She was head of the Small Business Administration during Trump's first presidency before stepping down from the Cabinet-level post in 2019 to lead the pro-Trump America First Action super PAC.
During the 2024 campaign, McMahon was one of Trump's top donors. She contributed more than $20 million to the Make America Great Again Inc. super PAC and $937,800 to his campaign and affiliated joint fundraising committees.
She was named co-chair of Trump's transition team following his victory over Vice President Kamala Harris.
McMahon briefly served on the Connecticut State Board of Education in 2009. She made unsuccessful bids in 2010 and 2012 for U.S. Senate seats in the state.
Betsy DeVos was secretary of Education for most of Trump’s first presidency.
Linda McMahon, Vince McMahon, and WWE were named as defendants in a lawsuit filed in October on behalf of surviving ring boys who are claiming sexual abuse.
