Lita praises the Lights Out Match between Britt Baker and Thunder Rosa.
In December 2004, Lita and Trish Stratus main evented Monday Night Raw for the WWE Women's Championship and it has been said many times in the years since then that Lita and Trish having that match inspired a generation of women.
Recently, Britt Baker and Thunder Rosa became the first women to main event an episode of AEW Dynamite in an intense non-sanctioned match, which featured both women bloodied by the end of it.
Lita found time to watch that match after hearing about all of the praise it received on social media and told Renee Paquette on a recent episode of Oral Sessions that she was proud of what they were able to accomplish not just for women or for women who have had a brief amount of time in the industry but just overall, the quality of that match made the WWE Hall of Famer excited for them and for her own passion for the industry.
“I'll hear about something and I do care. You hear about something and it slips your mind and this kept coming back and I was like, ‘I need to watch this,’ and not as a favor to Britt who but like, as I'm like, ‘Oh, cool. Something cool happened. I didn't see it. I wanna watch,” said the WWE Hall of Famer. “Holy shit, right? Insane. Yeah. I mean, that was great that they got that spotlight, but I mean, just to talk about a moment that brings you up from a wrestler that people have heard about to like just knocking your stock up.”
“I think Thunder Rosa won the match, but it was one of those that's like, it doesn't matter, they just tore the house and there's also like, there's no counterpoint. There's no counter-argument. That was an awesome match. I mean, not to mention or yes, actually, to mention, the crazy stuff they did. I mean, I saw the bag come out and I was like, ‘I know for sure there are thumbtacks in there.’ They fully went for it. Not for a gender or for an amount of time in the business. They went for it and delivered. It was crazy.”
Elsewhere on the same podcast, Lita opened up about the double standard she feels she still faces to this day because of her past relationships with professional wrestlers. Learn more here.
