Mace looks back on a vicious beatdown from Brock Lesnar back in 2019.
Before he became a member of Retribution and later a dazzling male model as part of the Maxximum Male Models, Mace served several roles in WWE. This included a run as a part of the Monday Night RAW announce team from September to November of 2019.
Mace's run as part of the announce team came to an end during the November 4th after Mace would stick up for broadcast partner Jerry Lawlor in the face of "The Beast" and his advocate, Paul Heyman. Mace would pay for this act of kindness, with Lesnar mauling Mace and putting him through the announce table with an F5.
During a joint Reddit Q & A on r/SquaredCircle along with Mansoor, Mace was asked about this moment, and revealed there were discussions to have Mace square off Lesnar in a matchup, but WWE decided to go a different direction.
"So when it happened they told me I’d just be back on commentary next week. Then they told me (as I was boarding a plane to the UK) that I would be selling it for a week. Then another. Then another. Then they said they were going in a new direction with the commentary team.
The tweet was me desperately trying to not get sent back to the PC like Mufasa falling to his death. Although as I understand it, a match was discussed, but Vince said it would be confusing to the audience because they didn’t know I wrestled. I was later told they changed directions because I was too big for commentary so I eagerly awaited my big push."
Following Lesnar's assault, Mace would not return to the WWE main roster until he was revealed as a member of Retribution in September of 2020.
Mace was released by WWE in the latest round of talent cuts following the TKO Group merger. You can read more about those releases here.
