Will Ospreay will get a chance to regain the title he never lost.
Following Kazuchika Okada's victory over Buddy Matthews at NJPW Battle in the Valley, Okada was confronted by Will Ospreay.
Ospreay is claiming to be the "real" IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, having been forced to vacate the championship in May due to a neck injury. Okada, as the winner of the G1 Climax, is walking around with the IWGP Championship and is set to face IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Shingo Takagi at Wrestle Kingdom 16 night one on January 4.
At NJPW Battle in the Valley, Ospreay declared that the winner of Okada vs. Shingo could face him in the main event of NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 16 night two on January 5 to determine the undisputed IWGP World Heavyweight Champion.

Ospreay hasn't returned to Japan since vacating the title, but has been active on NJPW STRONG. He defeated Ren Narita at NJPW Battle in the Valley.
