MARC MERO: Badd To Good - The Inspiring Story Of A Wrestling Wildman

Professional wrestling superstar and leading motivational speaker Marc Mero takes readers on a journey of resilience, faith and overcoming adversity in Badd To Good: The Inspiring Story of a Wrestling Wildman.

Marc Mero, who found global fame as Johnny B. Badd in WCW and alongside then-wife Rena ‘Sable’ Mero in World Wrestling Entertainment, played an instrumental role during wrestling’s hottest period. Sharing the squared circle with Hall of Fame stars including Stone Cold Steve Austin, Triple H and Ric Flair, Mero’s fast-paced wrestling style and charismatic presentation made him a big hit with fans, en route to winning three WCW Television Titles and the coveted WWE Intercontinental Championship.

Yet Marc Mero’s life after wrestling has been even more prolific than his time performing as a sports entertainer. For almost two decades, Marc has inspired young people globally through his motivation ‘Champion of Choices’ talks, changing many lives for the better.

In Badd To Good, Marc Mero opens up like never before about his life, from becoming a four-time New York State Boxing Champion, to receiving the first ever guaranteed WWF talent contract from Vince McMahon, to making history alongside Sable as part of the Attitude Era and being on the receiving end of backstage politics.

Pulling no punches, Marc also talks candidly about his very public marriage breakdown, struggling with addiction, becoming born again, speaking out against the wrestling business and finding purpose in life after superstardom.

With forewords from Diamond Dallas Page and Lex Luger, contributions from Mick Foley, Eric Bischoff, Vince Russo, Justin Roberts and more, Badd To Good is a real-life underdog story and a tale of overcoming life’s biggest obstacles.

QUOTES:

“I’ve been by Marc’s side through his highs and his lows. One of the biggest challenges that a pro wrestler ever faces is knowing what to do when they’re done competing: when they can no longer walk on out through the curtain and hear 20,000 people chanting their name. It’s very hard to work for someone else after you’ve experienced that feeling. Marc and I realized that, and we chose to bet on ourselves instead.”
- Diamond Dallas Page

“Marc perfectly combined old-school and chain wrestling with spectacular, high-flying moves. These days it’s easy to take moves like that for granted after becoming so used to today’s much faster-paced wrestling product, but Marc really was an innovator who was ahead of his time. He could do anything in that ring and have a good match with anybody.”
- Lex Luger

ABOUT THE PROJECT:

Ben Veal’s first interaction with Marc Mero, for an interview, spawned a friendship that led to Marc wanting to tell his story and with Ben being an award-winning writer, he jumped at the chance to tell Marc’s complex story with highs and lows, ultimately leading to his role today as America’s Number 1 school speaker.

Marc Mero had a challenging upbringing and start in his adult life. He saw some success in boxing before moving onto pro-wrestling. Upon his WCW debut, he immediately dazzled fans with an exciting in-ring style and working highly acrobatic moves into matches. After a run as popular WCW star Johnny B. Badd, he bet on himself by taking his chances in the WWF. But when Mero was talked into bringing his wife, Rena onto the road with him, as Sable, the Wildman took a back seat to his wife’s success.

After a public battle with the WWF in 1999 over a sexual harassment lawsuit, he battled with addiction, before overcoming it to find Jesus Christ and begin his rewarding career as a motivational speaker. This book has it all from road stories and backstage drama to family grief and almost ending it all!
