While the Von Erich name dates back decades with the success and tragedies of several family members, Marshall and Ross are looking to forge a legacy of their own.
Having made their mark in MLW as the MLW Tag Team Champions, Marshall and Ross discuss their family history and standing out on their own in the promotion as they return to Texas later this month for the Zero Hour event. But things could have potentially changed for both members of the Von Erich family in their wrestling career as they had a WWE tryout some time ago.
Despite potential interest from WWE to sign them, Marshall and Ross weren't sure what would have happened with them if they had signed with them. In an interview with the Dallas Morning News, hey recalled how the late Kerry Von Erich wrestled for the company in the 1990s, but was repackaged as The Texas Tornado.
“Uncle Kerry worked for WWE for awhile. It didn’t turn out so great. We weren’t really sure what direction they wanted to go with us, and our name,” Ross said.
"Is wrestling for us? If WWE is the only place to go, then it’s not for us. MLW and Court [Bauer] were like a blessing in disguise for us. We just love the guy. We’re going to do what we’re told by the boss, but if he wants us to change our names and we’re under contract… we get into legal issues. We just didn’t want to worry about that stuff. We’re honored to be Von Erichs and we never want that to change," Marshall said.
The two brothers will compete in separate singles matches at the Zero Hour event on January 11. Marshall will take on MJF and Ross will face Tom Lawlor.
