The Von Erichs want to show that wrestling has more than one royal family.
The Von Erichs and the Rhodes families are legendary in the wrestling world. Their legacy lives on, as Cody Rhodes is the face of WWE and Dustin wrestles for AEW, while the Von Erichs are following in their fathers' footsteps as well.
Speaking on The Von Erichs Podcast, Cody Rhodes' match against Dustin Rhodes at AEW Double or Nothing 2019 came up in the conversation. Marshall Von Erich stated that he and Ross wanted to face the Rhodes brothers.
“That was good stuff. That was a tag team that Ross and I really, we want to do that before we retire. Who knows? Anything can happen, but that’s got to happen, the Von Erichs vs. The Rhodes. We’ve gotta do it," Marshall said.
Marshall also noted that top guys tend to fall back on the old-school style of wrestling, rather than doing flips, and he cited Rhodes as an example. However, he pointed out that he has seen Rhodes do a flip off a steel cage.
“People like the flips and the cartwheels, and it’s super impressive. But it’s weird. I’ve noticed that top guys at every company always kind of fall back into that older-school style, just classic professional wrestling. Roman Reigns, you don’t see him doing cartwheels and back handsprings. You don’t see Cody Rhodes doing that, even though I’ve seen Cody Rhodes do a backflip off a cage and it was unbelievably high," Marshall said.
The Von Erichs wrestled at ROH Final Battle 2023, and they made a few appearances on AEW and ROH programming over the next several weeks. They teamed up with Dustin Rhodes on the February 16 episode of AEW Rampage.
