Matt Hardy teases what's next for The Hardys.
In recent weeks, The Hardys (Matt and Jeff Hardy) have teased a new direction. Matt previously said the disrespect would no longer be tolerated, as The Hardys were the tag team GOATS. On the January 5 episode of AEW Rampage, Matt announced the end of The Hardy Party.
Speaking on The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, the AEW veteran was asked about new beginnings potentially being on the horizon for The Hardys following the end of The Hardy Party.
“That’s the goal. We’re obviously heading in a new direction. Last night after the Bucks of Youth returned, I posted a picture of myself and Jeff with the Bucks of Youth, and people were pretty fired up about it. I am looking for reactions, and Jeff is looking for reactions. I’m very excited for everyone to see the segment that airs on Rampage that happens on January 12, it’s gonna be a great segment, us and Mark Briscoe. I think we might do some more business with Mark Briscoe. He is someone that we, in real life, truly respect, and professionally, we respect him. Even the living legends, the tag team GOATs respect Mark Briscoe because of the great battles we had with him and his brother. But yeah, I do think The Hardys are heading in a new direction. I think it is really unique for Jeff because I think you’re gonna see Jeff talk about and go into a territory that he’s never really explored before, and I think that’s gonna be really interesting, really intriguing, really good, entertaining TV," Hardy said.
Hardy continued by noting how he and Jeff have long lines at public signings, and they often have people thank them for being a major part of their childhood as wrestling fans. He teased that they would be applying this dynamic to their new direction.
“Every time we do a comic con, any time we do any public signing, you were at WrestleCade, we signed for seven hours. People come through. Everywhere or four people that come through, someone is gonna say, ‘You were my childhood. Oh my god, thank you for making my childhood great. You are living legends, and you’re still killing it.’ We hear that so much, and I think we’ve just decided to apply that to the new direction we are taking our characters in. The most funny thing, the best thing is when the diehard fans who claim or feel they’re the smartest, and they get the ins and outs of the business or they know what’s going on more than anybody else does, or they have the correct idea, this is how the creative should go, Tony Khan should book it this way or Triple H should book it his way or whatever, those guys, when they react to stuff, and also it gets underneath their skin, that lets you know, you can still do your job, you can play a role, and you can still get the smartest of the smart fans, especially the ones who believe they’re smartest of the smart," Hardy said.
Co-host Jon Alba noted that plenty of people understood what Matt was saying during The Hardys' segment with Private Party on the January 5 episode of AEW Rampage. Hardy responded by stating that plenty of people got it, but many others don't. He teased that it would be fun to play with the idea of the "big-headed Hardys", and he joked that this was his name for the Hardys' new direction.
“There’s a lot of people that do get it. But there’s even more people that are online that don’t necessarily get it, and they just think, ‘Oh my god, the heads on these guys.’ So it’s gonna be fun to play around with, the big-headed Hardys. Sometimes I refer to our direction as the big-headed Hardys," he said.
