Matt Hardy Praises New Day Raw Segment, Thinks That Big E Will Eventually Get Cleared

Matt Hardy discusses the New Day segment from Monday's Raw.

The December 2 edition of WWE Raw featured a heartbreaking segment involving the New Day. The segment was supposed to celebrate the group's ten year anniversary, but instead, Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston made the decision to push away Big E, criticizing him for his neck injury.

The segment was highly praised by fans, with some calling it the best segment of the year. On the latest edition of The Extreme Life Of Matt Hardy, Matt Hardy gave props to the segment, saying that it was powerful.

“I thought it was an excellent segment. I thought the emotion was so strong and so powerful and evoked feelings in anyone. I watched back the video package right before that and they put together such a tremendous video package to remind people of how much of a force the New Day has been, how important and how substantial and power of an entity they’ve been for a decade, right? Not only have they been multi-time tag team champions, but you had Kofi as the world champion, you had Big E as the world champion, Xavier was the king of the ring. They all had these amazing individual achievements placed upon them as well. You watch this package and you’re like, man, this makes me remember why I love these guys so much. They bust their ass, they worked so hard, and they overcame this crazy stigma they originally had in the beginning of being a gimmick that wasn’t supposed to be huge and wasn’t supposed to thrive and they made it work. I watched this package back and then watched the segment and you see the buildup already between Kofi and Xavier, then come down to the ring, and Big E comes back and once they lock it in, especially Kofi — because I feel like Kofi is like a Jeff Hardy, he is like a Ricky Steamboat. He is the enterally beloved babyface figure and I love Kofi for that. He is an awesome dude, I love him so much, I actually miss being around him. For him to really turn it up to the max on letting go on his fear of being an asshole and really being a dick in this situation where there’s all this sympathy on Big E talking about you had a broken neck, other people came back but you didn’t even come back to help us when you could have. Just a ton of sympathy on him and that segment was so important and it was so big and so many people were talking about it and so many people are invested in it. It’s one of those things where it’s a very friendly reminder or stark reminder too of how important that is in the entertainment business known as pro wrestling. Segments like that are often more important or more consequential than a five star match or a six star, seven star, whatever absurdity you end up wrestling. At the end of the day, pro wrestling is not all about the wrestling. I mean, that’s great when the wrestling is really good. But also, what is important is people being emotionally invested in characters and their story and what they’re doing. That started with the New Day, if it’s followed up on correctly it can be huge.”

Hardy went on to say that he thinks Big E will be cleared eventually.

“I think so. I would imagine the reason they decided to go here is because he is going to get cleared.”
