Matt Taven is finally the REAL ROH World Champion.
Weeks after taking Jay Lethal to a time limit draw at ROH 17th Anniversary, Matt Taven finally got the better of Lethal at ROH-NJPW G1 Supercard. After a hellacious match, Taven outbattled Lethal at the top of the ladder, knocking Lethal off and securing the ROH World Title. Marty Scurll, who was also in the bout, was taken out of the match shortly before Lethal and Taven's top of the ladder exchange.
The finishing sequence courtesy of Fightful's live coverage:
Marty wedges the shorter ladder into the purple one from one side before Jay does the same from the other and Matt hits Jay in the back with a chair and sends Marty off of the ladder.
Matt then hits Jay with the belt while it's hanging and knocks him off of the top and onto the ladder in the ropes before grabbing it for the win.
The victory marks Taven's first-time as ROH World Champion. He also becomes an ROH Grand Champion with the win, having previously won the ROH Television, Tag Team, and Six-Man Titles. Lethal's reign comes to an end after 280 days.
