Women of Honor Title match set for 17th Anniversary Show.
ROH announced that Mayu Iwatani will defend her Women of Honor Title against Kelly Klein at the ROH 17th Anniversary Event on Mar. 15. Iwatani previously defeated Klein at Bound by Honor on Feb. 20 to become the new Women of Honor Champion. Iwatani recently returned to Stardom to defend the WOH title against Konami.
KELLY KLEIN CHALLENGES MAYU IWATANI FOR WOH WORLD TITLE AT 17TH ANNIVERSARY
Las Vegas is known for big fights and bright lights, so what better city for The Best Wrestling on the Planet to celebrate its birthday in? On March 15 at Sam’s Town Live in Sin City, Ring of Honor presents its 17th Anniversary show live on pay-per-view and for HonorClub VIP.
The show takes place three weeks before the historic G1 Supercard at sold-out Madison Square Garden, so what happens at 17th Anniversary in Vegas will not stay in Vegas; the ramifications will surely be felt at The World’s Most Famous Arena in New York City on April 6.
For the very first time at an Anniversary event, the Women of Honor World Championship is on the line! Following her victory in Miami, Women of Honor World Champion Mayu Iwatani makes her first Stateside defense against the woman she defeated for the Championship, “The Gatekeeper” Kelly Klein!
WOMEN OF HONOR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
WOMEN OF HONOR WORLD CHAMPION MAYU IWATANI vs. “THE GATEKEEPER” KELLY KLEIN“The Goddess of STARDOM” set out to stake her claim as the best professional wrestler in the world when she was announced as an entrant in the tournament to crown the inaugural Women of Honor World Championship tournament. After falling short in the semi-finals to “The Gatekeeper” Kelly Klein, Mayu returned to STARDOM and became laser-focused on winning the World Championship.
In her first attempt, Mayu captured the Women of Honor World Championship, shocking the Bound By Honor – Miami crowd!
In her victory, Mayu avenged two previous losses to “The Gatekeeper”, one in the aforementioned World Championship tournament and once last August in Japan during Kelly’s tour of STARDOM. And in doing so, she defeated a woman that defeated three of the top stars in wrestling in one night at Final Battle and put the title on the line in every defense she had.
Following Mayu successfully defending the Women of Honor World Championship in Japan against Konami in Osaka at a STARDOM event, Mayu is guaranteed to be the World Champion for 17th Anniversary but has an uphill climb, nursing a knee injury worsened by Konami’s vicious submission tactics and knowing that Kelly has defeated her twice before.
“The Gatekeeper” is one of the most dominant stars in Women of Honor history, starting her career with a near two-year streak of never being pinned or submitted and showed at Final Battle she could defeat not just one but several top Women of Honor stars in one night when she scored falls on Karen Q., Madison Rayne, and then-Champion Sumie Sakai to capture the title.
Who will leave Vegas Women of Honor World Champion and get one step closer to defending the title at G1 Supercard at Madison Square Garden? Join us in-person, on pay-per-view or streaming for HonorClub VIP to find out!
