At CMLL x NJPW FantasticaMania Mexico on June 21, Stephanie Vaquer defeated La Catalina to retain the NJPW STRONG Women's Championship. After the match, AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Mone confronted Vaquer, her opponent at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door. Mone grabbed a microphone and sent a message to Vaquer. She congratulated Vaquer on her win but vowed to take her title at Forbidden Door. Vaquer responded, and tensions rose. Mone slapped Vaquer, and they brawled. Mone briefly posed with both titles.
With her win, Vaquer ensured that she would face Mone in a Title for a Title match at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door.
