Hazuki earned the right challenge Mercedes Mone at NJPW Strong Style Evolved and she got more than she bargained for when Mercedes made a surprise appearance at NJPW Fighting Spirit Unleashed.
Hazuki earned the number-one contendership to the NJPW STRONG Women's Championship by defeating Trish Adora, Anna Jay, and Koguma in a four-way in Lowell, Massachusetts. She got the victory by using a cradle pin on Adora.
After the match, Hazuki was surprised to learn that Mercedes Mone was in Lowell and came out to address her face-to-face. Mercedes announced that the forthcoming championship match would take place at NJPW Strong Style Evolved in December and teased her challenger by saying that although she defeated three of the very best, facing her would be a different ball game. Hazuki took the microphone from Mercedes and said that the NJPW STRONG Women's Championship belonged to her.
Both women brawled until Mercedes dropped Hazuki with a Backstabber. She then danced some more for the live crowd before leaving the ring.
