Mia Yim Credits Shayna Baszler And Jessamyn Duke For Helping Her Push Through Her Right-Leg Injury Last Year

Mia Yim is battle-ready for the M.Y.C. II.

All 32 competitors who will be competing at today's Mae Young Classic tapings will be looking to secure a victory and earn themselves a spot in the Mae Young Classic finals which will take place at WWE's first-ever all-women's PPV 'Evolution' on October 28th. There are a few returning wrestlers who partook in the inaugural Mae Young Classic including Mia Yim who was eliminated from last year's tournament in the first round by the eventual finalist and current NXT Women's Champion Shayna Baszler.

Unfortunately for Mia Yim her steam coming out of the Mae Young Classic was halted as she suffered a right leg injury in December of 2017 which kept her out of the ring for four months.

Yim recovered from her injuries of course but she did not get through the mental portion of overcoming an injury alone. Along the way to help her were her roommates Shayna Baszler and former UFC fighter and current NXT talent Jessamyn Duke. During an interview with TV Insider, Yim discussed how Baszler and Duke played a pivotal role in her recovery process.

“Thank God I had Shayna and Jess helping me around,” she said. “Taking me to the gym, making sure I was on top of my PT and being around me when I felt like I was alone. Having them here, making me laugh... Both of them made sure all my business was handled. Even helping me take care of my dog. It really made us a family. Even now they are pushing me telling me, ‘You’re going to get signed next. We want to help you get there next,’” she shared. “We all try to support each other no matter what it is. With my family being in D.C. and California, best friend in Baltimore, it’s nice to have family here."

During this interview, Yim revealed who she'd like to face in the finals of the Mae Young Classic if she's fortunate enough to reach that point in the tournament. Also, keep your eyes locked on the site for Fightful's live spoiler article for the Mae Young Classic tapings today at Full Sail.
