Mick Foley doesn't like his pro wrestling to be perfect.
For better or worse, Mick Foley's pro wrestling style has always been rooted in realism. When asked why he willingly put his body through so much punishment throughout his career, Foley stated it was so the audience wouldn't be able to see any holes in his game. When fans ask, "How did you make that look so painful?" Mick enjoys answering, "Because it was."
However, that means there will occasionally be some hiccups in any Mick Foley match.
Discussing his career philosophy toward "botches" in a Cactus Jack retrospective video on the WWE Vault YouTube channel, Mick Foley said that life is not perfect and that he enjoys it when mistakes add a flavor of reality to his performance. He also revealed that Terry Funk, a great mentor, partner, and rival throughout his career, sometimes purposely made mistakes to ensure a sense of realism in his matches.
"I don't like my sports entertainment to look perfect. I am the protege of Terry Funk, who would specifically make sure certain moves didn't look perfect because life's not perfect. What some people see as 'botches,' I see as 'does of reality,'" he said.
Mick Foley also recently revealed that his match against Randy Orton at WWE Backlash 2004 was his favorite match of his career. Learn more here.
