Mike Santana was confronted by a familiar face on AEW Rampage.
Santana missed more than a year after he suffered a knee injury at AEW Blood & Guts in June 2022. He returned ahead of AEW All In and reunited with his former tag team partner, Ortiz. At the pay-per-view, Santana and Ortiz were on the losing side of the Stadium Stampede match against Best Friends (Chuck Taylor, Trent Beretta, and Orange Cassidy) and Eddie Kingston.
On the September 8 episode of AEW Rampage, Santana made it clear that he would be following a new path by himself. The promo led to a heated exchange between Santana and Ortiz on social media.
On AEW Rampage: Grand Slam on September 22, Santana competed in his first singles match since May 2022 and dominated "Dirty" Bulk" Bronson. After the bell, Ortiz came to the stage and stared Santana down. Santana briefly approached him, but he walked away without saying anything.
