The Miz thinks he should have been the top draft pick in the recent WWE Draft. "Really?"
The Miz recently spoke with Sports Illustrated’s Extra Mustard and talked a variety of different topics, including being the Intercontinental Champion, the WWE Draft, his wife Maryse, and Bob Backlund.
On the topic of the WWE Draft, The Miz admitted that he was baffled when he was not picked as the first overall pick. The honor went to Seth Rollins going to Monday Night Raw, as The Miz went to SmackDown in the fourth round as the 17th overall pick.
“I don’t know why I [wasn’t] the number one pick,” he said. “I have all the accolades, all the experience, all the knowledge you could possibly want from a WWE number one draft pick.”
As a former WWE Champion who competed in the main event of WrestleMania 27, The Miz understands what he needs to do to make the Intercontinental Champion matter as much as a world championship. This is his fifth reign with the title, with his current reign starting the night after WrestleMania 32, when he beat then-champion Zack Ryder.
“I’m a fourteen-time champion and a five-time WWE Studios movie star,” The Miz said. “I’ve done a lot of things in WWE, as well as have my own talk show. I have a lot of things that a commissioner, like Shane McMahon, looks for in a talent. I’m here – full-time – all the time. I don’t ask for days off, I do all the media, and I do everything I possibly can to make the Intercontinental Championship as relevant as possible.”
Miz said that he treats being the champion very seriously as his favorite wrestlers growing up – Bret Hart, the Ultimate Warrior, Shawn Michaels and “Mr. Perfect” Curt Hennig – all held the Intercontinental Championship. He thinks that he is the workhorse of the company and that is why he is holding the title.
“It’s known as the championship for the workhorse of the company, and that’s probably why I have it – because I am the workhorse of the WWE,” The Miz said.
