'Mr. McMahon' Director Says Goal Behind Docuseries Was To 'Pull Back The Curtain And Reveal The True Vince McMahon'

The docuseries chronicling the life of Vince McMahon is set to premiere on Netflix on September 25. The six-episode series will be entitled "Mr. McMahon" and has been pushed back several times from when it was first announced in 2020.

At the time the documentary was announced, McMahon was still in his position as Chairman of WWE and running the creative operations. In the nearly four years that have followed, McMahon was investigated for sexual misconduct and hush money allegations, retired as WWE CEO, returned to the board of directors, made a deal with Endeavor to merge WWE and UFC, was accused of sexual assault and sex trafficking in a lawsuit by Janel Grant, resigned as TKO Executive Chairman, and is now under federal investigation.

Speaking to Joe Otterson of Variety, "Mr. McMahon" director and executive producer Chris Smith commented on the series.

“The goal behind ‘Mr. McMahon’ was to pull back the curtain and reveal the true Vince McMahon, obscured beneath the persona he presented to the world,” he said. “Over the four years of production, the story evolved in truly shocking ways, culminating in some extremely harrowing allegations. The final product is a revealing documentary that we believe offers a rich and nuanced portrait of the man and the complex legacy he left behind.”

Bill Simmons and Zara Duffy also serve as executive producers on the series.

It was confirmed that Janel Grant was not interviewed for the series.
