New NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Team Champions Crowned

The new champs are in town and they do not even want the titles.

Today saw the finals of the G1 Climax 28 tournament where Kota Ibushi and Hiroshi Tanahashi went to war to earn themselves an IWGP Heavyweight Championship match in the main event of next year's Wrestle Kingdom 13 on January 4th. The finals of the G1 were not the only match on the card with championship implications as The Young Bucks and Marty Scurll put their NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Team Championships on the line against Tama Tonga, Tanga Loa and Taiji Ishimori.

AEW Rampage New Year's Smash (12/27/2024) Results: Nick Wayne vs. HOOK, Thunder Rosa, Chris Jericho

The match was originally scheduled to be a non-title bout and it was set to be a grudge match between the two sides of Bullet Club but Tanga Loa convinced The Bucks and Scurll to put their titles on the line. Matt Jackson accepted the challenge on behalf of his team and although 'The Elite' put up a good fight, they were not able to best the sly Tongans and their junior heavyweight draft pick for Bullet Club Taiji Ishimori.

Tama Tonga caught Marty Scurll with a "Gun-Stun" and three seconds later Tama, Tanga Loa and Taiji Ishimori were the new NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Team Champions. Following the match, Tama yelled out that they did not want the titles and he chucked the belts to the outside in the direction of NJPW President Harold Meij. Tama closed his statement in saying that The OG's just wanted to prove a point and those six-man titles can stay exactly where they were at which is was on the floor.
