Oba Femi captured the NXT Championship at NXT New Year's Evil, defeating Trick Williams and Eddy Thorpe in a triple threat match.
Oba kicked out of the first trick shot knee, and moved out of the way of a second one. Trick hit Thorpe with the trick shot, but Thorpe was holding a steel chair.
Thorpe got knocked out of the ring, and Trick stumbled into a powerbomb by Oba, giving him the victory.

Earlier in the night, Thorpe was seen laid out backstage. He was not pulled from the match, but arrived late in the bout. Thorpe's arrival came at the cost of Femi, who had Trick pinned off a powerbomb before Thorpe pulled the referee out of the ring.
This marks the first reign as NXT Champion for Femi. Trick's title reign lasted 99 days. He made three successful title defenses.
