The belt was vacated in January 2020 when Kelly Klein was stripped of the title after her contract wasn't renewed. A tournament was set to begin in 2020, but the pandemic delayed it a year. The tournament was announced in March and began in July.
Rok-C defeated Sumie Sakai, Quinn McKay, and Angelina Love on her way to the finals. On the other side of the bracket, Alize went through Marti Belle, Allysin Kay, and Trish Adora.
ROH announced the signing of both women on September 7.
