New Japan is sandwiched between their Destruction in Kobe and upcoming King of Pro Wrestling show, but they announced this week the field for their Young Lion Cup.
NJPW revealed that the first matches for the round robin tournament would take place this month at Lion's Gate Project 8 on October 12. You can see the Japanese announcement via Twitter below.
The field will feature six names in an aforementioned round robin format. Tetsuhiro Yagi, Shota Umnio, Hirai Kawato, Tomoyuki Oka, Ren Narita, and Katsuya Kitamura are all set for the tournament.
Kitamura was a decorated amateur wrestler, who was an Olympic hopeful in 2012 but was banned for two years in 2011 after testing positive for anabolic steroids that he would later claim was an accident. Oka has wrestled for All-Japan Pro Wrestling earlier this year, and NJPW for a couple of years and maintains an extensive combat sports training background. Kawato is possibly best known for teaming with the likes of Jushin Thunder Liger, Yuji Nagata and Hiroshi Tanahashi as he's competed on several NJPW shows this year.
Fightful.com will have coverage and results of the tournament as it unfolds.
