NJPW Representative Set In Interim AEW World Title Bout At AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door

It's finally happening.

Hiroshi Tanahashi defeated Hirooki Goto at NJPW Dominion to earn the right to face Jon Moxley for the Interim AEW World Title at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door on June 26.

Tanahashi finished off Goto with Aces High followed the High Fly Flow.

Moxley, who has been calling out Tanahashi for three years since he started regularly appearing in NJPW, qualified for the bout as a result of his victory over Kyle O'Reilly on Wednesday's AEW Dynamite. Moxley is the top ranked contender in the official AEW rankings while O'Reilly had to win the Casino Battle Royale to star AEW Dynamite in order to compete against Moxley.

Tanahashi was originally scheduled to face CM Punk for the AEW World Title at Forbidden Door, but an injury to Punk caused the bout to change. Instead of Punk relinquishing the AEW World Title, an Interim AEW World Title was created.
