In recent weeks, Akira Tozawa has been feuding with NXT Heritage Cup Champion Noam Dar. Tozawa stole the trophy and forced Dar to meet him at a haunted house. There, he coerced Dar into giving him a title shot. Tozawa challenged Dar for the NXT Heritage Cup Championship.
Chad Gable, Otis, and Maxxine Dupri accompanied Tozawa to the ring for the match in order to support their Alpha Academy stablemate. In the end, Lash Legend interfered and helped Dar clinch the win.

Later in the show, following a backstage confrontation between Alpha Academy and Drew Gulak, Damon Kemp, Myles Bourne, and Charlie Dempsey, Otis defeated Drew Gulak in a singles match. The bout marked Otis' first time competing on NXT since January 2019.
