Paul Heyman says the role of a manager has changed with the progress of professional wrestling.
For decades, Paul Heyman has been associated with wrestlers as their manager or representative. In an interview with Digital Spy, Heyman discussed the role of the manager, something he thinks should be gone. He said he hopes the role he filled in the 1970s and 1980s has been abandoned for the "upgraded" nomenclature of "advocate."
"The business itself along with its presentation has become more innovative, has become more progressive, is based on a style that has 20, 30 years of improvement. In the same way that the portrayal of the negotiator, the strategist or the spokesman, once labeled a manager, now hopefully labeled an advocate, has upgraded, has changed, has gone along with the times and is not something that has seen the industry pass it by," said Heyman.
Heyman started calling himself an advocate when he joined forces with Brock Lesnar as he was there often to speak in lieu of Lesnar appearing on the broadcast. At Wrestlemania 34, he will accompany Lesnar as he defends the WWE Universal Championship against Roman Reigns.
Fightful Wrestling will have live coverage and a recapping podcast for Wrestlemania 34.
