PJ Black is on the road to recovery.
PJ Black, formerly known as Justin Gabriel in WWE, last wrestled at the ROH tapings on May 30th. Before that, he had been fairly active for companies on the independent scene. He previously returned to IMPACT for their October 2022 tapings.
Speaking with Bryan Asbury on Developmentally Speaking, PJ Black noted that he was dealing with an injury.
"I’m doing fantastic. Just going through some heavy recovery stuff, but other than that, I’m alright. This is probably the worst injury I’ve ever had. I’ve been wrestling for 27 years. This is the first time I’ve been injured in the ring, and it’s gonna be about six months or so, so we’ll see how that goes. I just got to put the time in," Black said.
Black later noted that he got injured at the ROH tapings, and he shared his belief that if he hadn't gotten hurt, he might have had more opportunities with the company. He stated that he was trying not to dwell on that, as he was instead focused on healing.
"I got injured at AEW, at the ROH tapings when they came to LA. I feel if I didn’t get injured, that probably would have gone somewhere for sure, and [I’m] really sad about that. But I’m trying not to dwell on that and get too depressed. Now I’m kind of back at square one. Gotta heal this wheel first and then see what the next step is, so kind of just focusing on getting better and then getting back to where I was," Black said.
Black also said that he was on his last week of being on crutches. He detailed his extensive rehab, as he explained how he had to put in a lot of work and rebuild the muscles in his leg. Black stated that the process would take a long time.
"For the next few months, I’m just focusing on getting better. I’m on my last week of crutches. I’ve been on crutches for six weeks. I can kind of walk, finally. Now it’s the next step. I’ve gotta do rehab every day. I don’t really have time for much, just rehab every single day. Go to the physio, go to the hyperbaric chamber, red light therapy, go for the massages, and then obviously the strengthening stuff. That takes a lot of time. I have to rebuild all those muscles around the knee. It’s gonna take a long time. It’s a long journey, so I’m just kind of trying to focus on this right now so I can at least get back to the ring," Black said.
Black did not specify the nature of his injury. Further details are unclear at this time.
