Gunther and Cody Rhodes came face to face on the October 25 episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown. Gunther tried to intimidate Cody, talking about taking the fans out of the equation in their upcoming match at WWE Crown Jewel. Cody Rhodes said everything they do is about the fans.
Eventually, Gunther's Imperium teammate Ludwig Kaiser came out to attack Cody, who would be saved by an old friend of his own, Randy Orton. The former Legacy stood tall at the end of the segment, and then it was announced that a tag team match would occur on November 1.
