Could there be a future in the ring for Cain?
This past Wednesday former two-time UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez was present at the NXT TV tapings in Florida at Full Sail University. Cain was recorded on camera during a portion of the tapings as well.
It was then unveiled by WWE the following day that Cain partook in workouts at the WWE Performance Center where he learned under the trainers and worked with talent at the P.C.. Velasquez spoke with WWE following his experience and stated that it was amazing and he was looking forward to learning and being there as much as he can.
“My experience here has been amazing,” he said. “I’m just looking forward to being here and learning as much as I can. I’ve been a fan of the sport since I was a little kid, and now I get to participate in it.”
With that being said, Cain has not competed in the octagon in over two years and his last fight was during the summer of 2016 at UFC 200 where he defeated Travis Browne. Over the number of months Velasquez has openly stated that he hopes to return to the octagon this year but that has yet to happen with five months left in the year.
Yesterday, ESPN's MMA reporter and journalist Ariel Helwani commented on the Performance Center's Twitter page sending out a tweet that they were honored to have Cain in attendance. Helwani noted that he was told that Velasquez is open to options with WWE but his camp would not comment on his current contract status with UFC.
